Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less for State Health Plan Members
Eat Smart, Move More, Weigh Less is a 15-week weight management program for adults that uses strategies proven to work for weight loss/maintenance. The Physical Activity and Nutrition (PAN) Branch in partnership with NC Cooperative Extension Service is offering this program to members of the State Health Plan for Teachers and State Employees (Plan).
Onsite, in-person classes are offered at state worksites (including state agencies, public universities, community colleges, and public schools) in counties with a higher concentration of state employees. These counties include Wake, Pitt, Orange, Mecklenburg, and Guilford. Additionally, real-time, online classes taught by a live instructor using synchronous distance-education technology are available to Plan members in any county across the state. These classes are offered at convenient times - early morning, lunch-time, and evening and participants can easily attend using a computer. An up to date listing of upcoming online classes for Plan members and registration is available HERE. Plan members can participate in the entire 15-week program for only $5 with good attendance - a $30 registration is required at the time of enrolling with a $25 refund for completing the program (completion is defined as attending 10 of the 15 weekly sessions).
NC Agricultural Foundation has sub-contracted with the NC Public Health Foundation to cover for the cost of the work that the PAN Branch will complete for this grant. This includes but is not limited to attending team meetings, partnering on curriculum updates, providing instructor trainings and participating in program evaluation plan etc. In addition, NC Public Health Foundation is handling participant registrations and refunds for all onsite and online classes beginning January 1, 2011.
